Club history
Swanscombe Kazen Kai Karate was set up in October 2009 by Sensei Saj Desilva 3rd Dan, with the aim of teaching karate to beginners and experienced enthusiasts alike. Due to the early success of the club across the wider Kent area, Saj decided to change the name of the club to North Kent Karate in February 2010.
Since then, North Kent Karate has experienced unbelievable growth. In just over 18 months, the club can now be found in four locations (Swanscombe, Gravesend, Dartford and Rochester) and boasts a roster of over 150 students. The club has also branched out to offer kickboxing, women’s self defence and general fitness and circuit training classes.
Despite its short history, North Kent Karate has become one of the strongest karate clubs in the South East of England thanks to its competition successes. In 2010, the club bought back numerous medals at The London International Karate Championships (SENI Open) and Greater London Karate Championships. The North Kent Karate juniors also finished an impressive 3rd of 19 clubs at the Junior Meopham Karate Open 2010.
2011 again saw substantial success on the competition circuit, with over 30 medals won during the first 6 months of the year! The club took silverware at the Goju Kai Kumite Open, The Meopham Open 2011 and the East England Karate Championships in Clacton, Essex.
The club’s mission is to get people fit, confident and healthy – no matter their age or ability. Combined with some of the most competitive training prices around, North Kent Karate has a growing client base ranging in ages from 3 to over 50.
